Play-to-earn games continue to garner much excitement. Axie Infinity has regained lost market momentum following the launch of its free-to-play variant Origin. Several updates have been announced for Axie Infinity: Origin Season 2, mainly regarding balance and rewards.
Axie Infinity: Origin Update
Launching a free-to-play version of Axie Infinity was a slightly risky move. Play-to-earn titles have economies hinging on new capital entering the ecosystem. A free-to-play variant is more accessible, as it requires no upfront investments. However, It also offers no guarantee that the players will either transition to the “regular” P2E version. Even so, a free version gets the name Axie Infinity out there again, which was much needed.
We recently discussed how minting for Axie Infinity was rising again. That is for the P2E game, not the free-to-play variant. As such, one could state the launch of Axie Infinity: Origin has been successful. Like its bigger brother, the game will go through several gameplay “seasons”. Every season can introduce significant changes, address class balance, introduce more content, etc.
The newly announced Axie Infinity: Origin season 2 will bring some exciting changes. First of all, the team will adjust the mechanics of Jinx. Rather than dealing at the start of a turn, it will now do so at the turn’s end. That may help kill off some enemies in the game after the player’s Axies do their thing. A quality of life improvement, although one that can shake up the gameplay for the better.

Second, Axie Infinity: Origin season two is touted to be “faster-paced” than before. That should make the gameplay more exciting and engaging. Thirdly, the game will receive a new Eras system to ensure players get a new experience every week. That should help with player retention, as no one likes a stale game with same-type chores.
Finally, those who expected card balancing are out of luck, as SkyMavis has no intention of introducing any changes. That is, unless some major bug would have to be fixed, but that isn’t the case today.
AXS Rewards and Daily Login Bonuses
Other changes to look forward to in Axie Infinity: Origin Season 2 are the AXS rewards. Like the play-to-earn version, the free-to-play game enables users to earn AXS. A total of 112,000 AXS has been set aside for Season 2, all of which are distributed via the new Eras system. Using leaderboards is a great way to have players compete with one another for compelling resources. In addition, the season introduces progress Rune/Charm rarity unlocks during the 42-day season.
There is also an update to crafting, with level-ups becoming more frequent. In addition, crafting has 100 levels instead of 50. Several rewards have been changed, as rank-ups no longer award Moondust. Instead, players will receive Moonshards. There are still Moondust rewards for level-ups (both basic and Epic) along with Ancient Moonstones.
To retain more players, Axie Infinity: Origin now features a daily login bonus. Players who log in daily will receive a gift in their mailbox, although rewards expire at the end of the day. Most games have such a system that ensures ongoing player activity throughout the game’s life cycle.
