Aldi has delivered a second pay rise in just two months for its UK store assistants, reinforcing its status as the highest-paying supermarket in the country.
From 1 September 2025, the base hourly rate will increase to £13.02, up from the previously announced £13.00. Colleagues with longer service will now earn up to £13.95 per hour.
This follows an earlier announcement in July that Aldi would raise pay from £12.75 to £13.00 per hour effective from the same date.
In addition to the standard raise, Aldi continues to offer paid breaks, estimated to be worth around £1,385–£1,425 annually per colleague. A benefit no other supermarket currently matches.
The wage hikes come amid rising competition: Lidl is also increasing its entry-level pay to £13.00, and up to £13.95 for longer-serving workers, matching Aldi’s new rates. For comparison, Tesco will pay a minimum of £12.64 per hour starting in late August. The current UK national minimum wage stands at £12.21, with a projected rise to £12.71 next year.
With this latest adjustment, Aldi reaffirms its leadership in the supermarket wage race, reaffirming that competitive pay remains central to its strategy to attract and retain frontline staff.
