The subject of marijuana has been a hot-button topic for a long time, going through decades of back-and-forth debate. This year has taken a surprising turn for cannabis legalization. In the 50 states of the US, 1 states (including the District of Columbia) permit recreational cannabis for adults 21+. 37 states approve of medical marijuana, and 11 of those 37 of these states permit CBD oils and small amounts of THC. This means that only 2 states do not approve CBD or marijuana use at all. Even with those statistics, it appears that the nation seems to be warming up to the idea of legal cannabis.
Research predicts that seven new states may approve recreational marijuana by 2030. These states are Florida, Florida, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Oklahoma, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and South Dakota. Federal regulations may be shifting as well as President Biden issuing an executive order pardoning non-violent offenders convicted of the simple possession of marijuana in violation of the Controlled Substances Act. While slow it’s a step forward for the cannabis industry.
